About us
BanaPads is a registered private limited liability social enterprise headquartered in Mpigi, Uganda with operations in Tanzania and Burundi. Its principle objective is to link female menstrual hygiene research to community and industry needs. Currently, there is a large unmet demand for affordable sanitary napkins for women and girls in East Africa, especially with in the marginalized communities. Lack of access to and affordability of sanitary pads contributes to the high rates of absenteeism from school/work among girls and women.
Background
BanaPads has developed a cost effective eco-friendly sanitary napkin with anti rash finish as part of its research agenda using locally available resources as raw materials-banana pseudo stems and a combination of three herbal leaves Thespesia populnea, Curcuma longa and Barbados Aloe, tested the product with in a restricted market segment and found it to be viable.
Our campaign
BanaPads wishes to initially be scaled up to a commercial level on the basis of market response and projected market potential during the pilot stage but lacks the necessary capital and other resources.
